Joan Didion has so much style. Clothes that are way too big, hair tucked behind ears, flat leather sandals, and plenty of pockets for putting things in. That's how I want to dress - how I hope I dress! - although I don't think I'll ever pull it off quite the way Joan does. I remember the first time I read Slouching towards Bethlehem and being struck at once by two very different, almost polar opposite emotions. The first was complete adoration at such sparse, forceful prose, and knowing instantly without any kind of delusions that this was the way I wanted to write. The second was the most powerful, forceful envy I have ever felt, because I knew in that exact same instant that I could never be that good.

The Flight of Fancy
i love JD's writing, and her style is fantastic - from her days as Vogue editor to now.
Caeley - she's the OG!
Milly - I know. So elegant, then and now. And so sassy, I admire sass quite a bit.
Sarah Dee - oh.... stop it. seriously!! haha. she's so elegant, agree. :)
Sarah - haha yes didion-esque but definitely never as good as didion! But it's ok, I've resigned myself to the fact.
Meghan - who doesn't? They're so damn useful!
Miss Sophie - Her non fiction is so perfect, the way I always try to write. And I love her story, how she won a competition, got on the masthead at vogue and worked her way up in a small amount of time. That's the dream right there!
